Many people who suffer from TMJ dysfunction problems remain undiagnosed for years, often experiencing the frustration of a lengthy medical merry-go-round. For over 25 years, our TMJ patients have benefited from our expertise in restoring them to normal pain-free jaw function.
Sleep Apnea is a common medical condition which is often undiagnosed. It involves repeated cessation of breathing during sleep with very serious cardiovascular, GI and psycho-social consequences. However, the symptoms are often limited only to snoring and excessive day-time sleepiness.
Once diagnosed at a sleep center, the gold standard of treatment is use of a Continuous Positive Air Pressure (CPAP) machine during sleep. Though very effective, many individuals are unwilling to initiate CPAP therapy or find it uncomfortable, cumbersome or inconvenient.
For these patients, treatment with an oral appliance has been shown to be an easily tolerated and effective alternative.
Teeth were designed to last a lifetime but sometimes they don’t. If, for any reason, you lose one or more teeth it is important for your oral health and general well-being to replace the missing teeth. When there are major gaps in your dental alignment due to tooth loss your chewing ability is greatly reduced and these spaces can cause other teeth to tip or rotate thereby creating subsequent problems. In addition, there can be an emotional side effect due to tooth loss: diminished self-esteem as a result of the perception of a poor appearance.
Dental implants are an excellent option if you have decided to replace missing or failing teeth. Dental Implantation is a safe and effective procedure for tooth replacement and has been used for more than 50 years with great success.
Implant treatment is more predictable than conventional bridgework and has become the treatment of choice in most circumstances.
One of the most gratifying aspects of family dentistry is watching our young patients grow to adulthood with beautiful, healthy smiles. We recommend that very young children initially accompany their parents to their regular visits. They will be made to feel welcome and be given a ride in the chair. Once they acclimate and feel comfortable in our office environment, they will be ready for an appointment of their own for a gentle tooth polishing and exam-usually at age three or four. Our focus with children is to:
- Make every visit a positive one for your child.
- Ensure that every child benefits from the latest preventive techniques
- Monitor each child’s dental and facial growth and development so that interceptive measures can be taken when necessary to maximize facial balance and temporomandibular joint health, while minimizing the need for extraction of permanent teeth to resolve crowding.
New medical evidence has established a strong link between oral health and general health. Oral bacteria and dental disease have been definitively implicated in the development of heart disease, diabetes and low birth weight. Periodontal disease is also now linked to cancer of the tongue. Our office utilizes an effective, non-surgical protocol to treat periodontal (gum) disease.
Designed to replace the dreaded "goop", unpleasant taste, drooling, inherent accuracies and gagging associated with traditional impression taking; Itero enables us to offer our patients a technology that is far superior to conventional methods. Patients become engaged in the process as they see their dental work on-screen. This provides us with a wonderful educational tool that helps improve patient knowledge. Offices equipped with Itero are on the cutting edge of dentistry.
By using a hand-held wand to optically scan the area to be restored, the patient's entire impression is created 100% digitally with no mess or bad taste. This translates into a more comfortable impression process, a perfect fit, less chair time, and restorations that look and feel like natural teeth.
Itero eliminates weakness in the impression process such as voids, pulls and tears. With a precise starting point, we are able to create digitally accurate restorations.
Almost every dental procedure requires a needle injection of anesthetic solution. Yet, research shows that fear or anxiety about the pain of injections keeps 50% of Americans from visiting the dentist-resulting in an epidemic of untreated dental needs, resulting in excessive tooth loss and poor overall health.
Research shows that when vibration is applied as a counter-stimulation to an anesthetic injection, it will reach the brain before the pain sensation does. The brain can perceive only one sensation at a time-therefore, the sensation that arrives at the brain first is the one that will be felt.
DentalVibe's unique VibraPulse technology provides the most effective way to "close" the brain's pain gate, blocking the discomfort or dental injections.
By now, numbness is something most of us are used to at the dentist after an injection of local anesthetic. Dr. Burns now has a proven way that may speed up the return of sensation in the soft tissues of the mouth after routine care.
Numbness can be limiting, affecting your speech, your smile and your ability to drink. You may even catch yourself drooling.
OraVerse is a breakthrough that reverses unwanted lingering numbness after routine dental procedures where local anesthetic containing vasoconstrictor was used. In clinical trials, the patients were able to regain normal sensation twice as fast vs. the control group.
Rotary Root Canal Therapy
Rotary endodontic files use a handpiece to rotate the endodontic file during root canal treatment. The advantage of rotary endodontics is reduced working time and fewer files used during the procedure. Most times the treatment is completed in one visit. Commonly nickel-titanium files are used because of their greater flexibility which permits increasingly curved roots to be treated.
Endodontics (Root Canal) Facts
- Endodontic treatment, often referred to as a root canal, is a common dental procedure that saves damaged teeth, which avoids having to have the tooth extracted.
- More than 14 million root canal procedures are performed every year in the United States.
- Root canal treatment is necessary when the soft inner tissue of the tooth is diseased or damaged. The tissue is removed and the root canal is cleaned, filled and sealed with a sterile, biocompatilble material.
- With properly performed root canal treatments, teeth function normally for a lifetime. However, after a root canal, it is necessary that the patient return to his or her dentist to have a crown or other restoration placed over the endodontically treated tooth to protect it.
- Endodontic treatment is usually less expensive and time consuming than having a tooth extracted and replaced with a bridge, implant or removable partial denture.
- New techniques in aneshesia make root canal treatment virtually painless for patients.
- Patients who have been advised to have teeth extracted should ask if their teeth can be saved with endodontic treatment.
